Description
LAST EVER 1970 Two Shilling Coin - proof condition from the Royal Mint.Just as decimal coinage was being introduced the Royal Mint made one final small production run of pre decimal coins. These were never put into circulation, issued as proof coins for collectors. Here we have the two shilling or florin coin in proof condition, untouched since 1970.
The design features floral elements from the 4 home nations, the thistle for Scotland, the shamrock for Northern Ireland, the Tudor Rose for England and a leek for Wales.
HM Queen Elizabeth II on the front of the coin.
Stunning quality with a weight of 11.3 grams and a diameter of 28.5mm, just over one inch. A fine example of British craftsmanship, a coin first issued in 1849 and in production until 1967, finally this small striking for collectors in 1970. Then the coin passed into antiquity and no more can ever be issued.
A coin of special meaning for anyone born in 1970. or with a 1970 anniversary.
A wonderful gift for coin enthusiasts, or anyone with an interest in British history.
A rare opportunity to secure a unique piece of our history
