    Description

MOVIE POSTERS: The Paintings of Batiste Madalena
    - (1st Edition, April 1, 1986) Harry N. Abrams
Striking movie posters from the 1920's. Originally hand-painted Tempera on illustration board.  (
    Only
    250 ever survived
when the artist himself rescued them from trash bins behind a theater!)
In early 1920's photo pioneer George Eastman (Eastman-Kodak) established a theater to be The World's Best.  Eastman manufactured sprocketed film for Hollywood movies.  Outside his theater, he wanted to display enticing & exciting posters in place of the mass produced ones being used by the  studios.  He unearthed a perfect artist: young, little-known Batiste Madalena.
29 large highly frameable posters & 4 pages of smaller b+w reproductions.
    64pp  -  Folio  -  11.5x15x.25"  -  Mint.
